Actually one hour of preparation might have saved me heaps of time and countless dollars. All I needed to do was upgrade all my forwarding info, fix my billing data and cell phone contract, and alert my insurer about the changes. Then, another hour or two at the California Department of Motor Vehicles would've corrected all my license and registration concerns. Because I didn't do this, I had to spend numerous days at a dive motel, got buffooned mercilessly by my friend, and lost a lot of money I could've invested in brand-new furnishings for my new home phone.
